Big Following Does Not [Always] Equal Big Money

February 25, 2009

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that social networks are hot. When you’re on a network like Twitter or FaceBook, you may often be impressed by the large number of followers and friends some people have. Now, if that person is already somewhat of a celebrity in their industry you understand why. But if that person is someone you’ve not heard of and have a gazillion followers you’re probably thinking to yourself that they’re doing really well.

Not so fast. It is a sad truth that many who know how to bring in the numbers don’t know how to effectively get them to their site or monetize them. As a result, they earn very little or nothing at all.

Followers and newsletter subscribers are two different things. Personally, I’ve always felt list subscribers much more profitable and loyal than following at any social networks. I believe this is because people who are at social networks friend or follow you to (surprise) befriend you and – let’s be honest about this – hopefully sell something to you. People who subscribe to your list do so because they want something from you, are more interested in what you have to offer them and expect you to pitch offers to them – to a certain extent.

So next time you’re in a social networking site and you start feeling envious of the number of followers or friends they have. Stay the course. Focus on converting followers to blog readers and newsletter subscribers and subscribers to customers.

What Is Happening To America’s Economy?

February 25, 2009

In all my life, I’ve experienced times when things seemed a little out of balance. But in the past few months, the whole world seems to be out of balance and not coming naturally back into place.

And even though our new administration has passed a stimulus package to create new jobs and encourage spending, it is only a quick fix that will prove to be a financial noose around our children’s necks.

Here’s what it seems to me.

In the Industrial Revolution, having a good job was enough. You didn’t become financially free but you made a good living.

That worked for then. But now that times have changed in this Information Age, working for someone else may not be the answer.

Economists have predicted that the bottom will fall out of our economy around the year 2010. That means by then, families need to have a stable home business that operates on passive income or one they can sell.

So no matter where you are now, you’d better start planning for the future. If you think you have no money now, what till the economic tide ebbs after this coming stimulus package goes into effect.

One result of printing money and dumping it into the economy is inflation. The more money you print and dump, the higher regular prices on standard goods and services will go.

That’s not a theory, it’s an economic fact.

Printing new money = Inflation
So here’s the most important question:

What are you going to do about it?
Want my suggestion?

Here it is anyway.

Whether you have a job or not, somebody in your house needs to start a home business.

You can’t afford to wait till “later.”

Yes, times will get bad. They are going to get worse than they are now.

Waiting till “later” will mean the cost of the education you will have to get will cost even more than it does now.

Waiting till “later” will mean that your competitors will have the jump on you.

Waiting till “later” will mean you will miss many opportunities to get started while a new industry or business concept is still in its infancy… and either free or cheap.

Waiting till “later” means you are a procrastinator and procrastinators don’t change the world. They are also soon going to be very sorry they waited till later.
Just Make It Happen
Somebody in your house … meaning it may not be you but there is somebody in the house who can do this…

Needs… really has no choice…

to start… that means you may need to get help figuring out what you guys are good at and what you want to be when you grow up…

a home business… that means you operate a business serving others and making money out of your home.

It’s not that hard, now that the computer age has brought the world to your fingertips for free.

All you have to do is this:

1. Get vision from men of understanding about what you can and want to do to serve others and become financially free
2. Get the specific education you will need to do that
3. Take action

That means, you can’t wait until “later”!

Those who wait are going to find themselves looking for any place they can find to rent, instead of building a wonderful home where they choose to live.

It takes time to learn how to build a successful home business. There many many things that must happen for you to become successful.

You may have heard about Internet marketers who made a million dollars in a day or an hour. I know those guys. I’ve had dinner with those guys. I’ve been to one of their homes.

They didn’t start there. They grew to that level of success and it took years.

So if you are concerned about this economic crisis we are in and that is not going to get better any time soon, take action now. This is the time to focus on your family and figure out what you can do to survive the coming economic recession.

If your goal truly is to become financially free, the time to start is now.

My team and I are dedicated to helping families like yours get that vision and specific education. We can also help you take action. So when we inform you of classes and events, don’t be so quick to delete our posts.

Read the information we send, consider the classes we offer, attend the live events we host, and let my team of “older men and women” help you create the home business that will give your family the stability you need in these unstable economic times.

We’ve been where you are but we aren’t there any more. We’ve learned how to use the Internet to make money from home while also living a great life. And we can help you learn how too.

So many books, so little time…

Tired of Tips and How To Articles? Try the Problem/Solution Approach

February 13, 2009

Tips and How to Articles are successful formats because they are easily digested by any audience.  When you are able to distill a topic into a series of steps or offer advice with finely organized tips then you capture your audiences attention and offer them a quick benefit.

However if you’re writing articles for SEO and traffic generation purposes that means you’re writing a lot of content.  The result can often be stagnant copy.  Not fun for you or your audience.

Consider using the problem/solution approach to your next article series. It works like this:

An article on losing weight might approach the topic with the following problems and solutions:

  • Problem – Late in the day cravings and before bedtime snacks.
  • Solution – Find a high protein snack with a small amount of carbohydrates like a bowl of cereal.  If you’re exercising and building muscle this snack will actually help you metabolize slower.
  • Problem- No time for breakfast
  • Solution – Make time!  Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day.  A hard boiled egg or a protein shake will go a long way toward curbing cravings and maintaining blood sugar levels.

This approach with a very tightly focused theme will help you keep your content fresh, letting you and your audience look at things with new eyes.  It offers the same easily digestible benefits for your readers and is still simple to write.

10 Secrets to Repurposing Your Content Part Three

February 9, 2009

Whether you’re on a budget or simply seeking to make the most of your assets, repurposing your content is a brilliant business decision.  In the first two installments of this five part series I discussed repurposing Interviews and How to Articles and Forum Posts and Information Products .

In this third installment we’ll take a look at how to repurpose newsletters and autoresponders.

Newsletters

Newsletters, also known as ezines and enewsletters if distributed electronically, are a great way to stay in communication with your prospects and customers.  Regular communication, as you know, is one of the keys to motivating purchases – it’s about creating and maintaining front of mind awareness.

Whether your newsletter has one article or ten this content can be repurposed into a variety of products or formats.

Reports. It may be a big job and one to consider outsourcing particularly if you have been publishing for a long time however you can pool all of your newsletter content together and organize them by topic and create special reports.

The dated content will need to be updated with timely statistics and quotes.  These reports can of course be given away, sold, or packaged as bonus products with other products to increase their value.

Blog posts. Your newsletter content can also be shortened and repurposed into blog posts or even guest blog posts to expand awareness.

Articles. Finally, newsletter content can be reformatted and rewritten to create original content which you can utilize for article marketing or SEO purposes.

Autoresponders.

Typically autoresponders are short informational messaged with a bit of a marketing message tied in. The goal is often to motivate people to click through to receive more information or to motivate a purchase.

Articles. These messages often combine quite well to create longer How To or Tips articles.  Pull your autoresponder series together, add a few transition sentences and remove the marketing content and you have a well formatted article.

Ecourse. Many autoresponders are designed to show someone how to do something.  Pulling them together you can create an ecourse to sell or give away.  Add exercises and action steps in the form of a workbook to increase the content’s value.

There are myriad ways to repurpose your content without worrying about duplicate content issues or fearing redundancy.  Next time we’ll take a look at how to repurpose your online courses, and questions from your prospects and customers.

Happy writing!
