Emotional Words to Use in your Marketing
August 1, 2007
When you write your copy, it’s a good idea to keep in mind that people buy on emotion and later justify with logic. This means that by appealing to the buyer’s emotional side, you stand to make more sales.
Our left side of the brain is our rational side, while the right side is our emotional and creative side.  I’ve put together a list of left brain versus right brain words, to help you produce emotionally charged copy.Â
Now, please keep in mind I’m not saying in any way that you should abuse your customers or write things that are untrue…. but if you have a quality produc to sell, changing a few words in your sales copy can make all the difference.
Here are a few of the most commonly used left brain words. Simply take the word from the left brain column and replace it with the corresponding right brain word.
 Left Brain / Right Brain
anticipate / expect
attractive / good looking
facilitate / ease
fortunate / lucky
immediately / right now
learn / find out
wealthy / rich
youthful / young
strike / hit
prevent / stop
large / big
fatigued / tired
grafitication / enjoyment
And here is a list of power words, which have been proven to evoke an emotional response in readers:
breakthrough
booming
easy-to-follow
guaranteed
incredible
innovative
instantly
irrisistible
secrets
step-by-step
unique
urgent
how to
announcing
astonishing
Please realize that no matter how many power or emotional words you use in your copy, you must first have a good grasp of your target market.Â
If your message doesn’t connect with your reader instantly, then it really doesn’t matter how many of these words you use because you’ve already lost them at the start.
So first, know your market inside and out and then write emotional copy to reach them.
